S-O-S Rape Crisis Center, South Bend
S-O-S is St. Joseph County’s rape-crisis center. S-O-S is staffed by trained professionals and volunteer advocates who are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
S-O-S staff can provide confidential counseling and recovery services, as well as support and information about communication with the police, family and friends. S-O-S Volunteer Advocates provide emotional support and information on the phone and in person at area hospital Emergency Rooms around the clock. Specially trained professionals offer confidential counseling, group therapy, information, and referrals. S-O-S Advocates can act as a liaison between the victim and the legal process, and can accompany the victim to court, if desired.

University Counseling Center Support for Sexual Assault Victims
The University Counseling Center is staffed by trained professionals who can provide confidential, specialized support and assistance both to sexual assault victims and their friends. Students may seek counseling at any time, whether it is days, months or years after the assault, and crisis assistance is available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week.
Common aftereffects of an assault include shame, isolation, sleep disturbances, substance abuse, sexual dysfunction, mistrust, intrusive thoughts, denial, dissociation, helplessness, feeling overwhelmed, feeling loss of power and autonomy, fear, guilt, depression, anxiety, impairment of concentration, exaggerated startle responses, and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Out of the Shadows Support Group
Out of the Shadows is a confidential, all women’s on-campus support group for survivors of sexual violence. They offer a supportive environment to discuss issues related to your own experiences. If you or someone you know may benefit from this type of group, you can email outoftheshadowsgroup@gmail.com or call Annie Envall at S-O-S at 574-283-1309 for meeting location and more information. Out of the Shadows is coordinated by the Gender Relations Center.
