Fr. Tom Eckert, C.S.C., eagerly returns to the rector ranks in Notre Dame’s newest residence, Duncan Hall. He previously served for three years (2003-2006) as rector of St. Edward’s Hall, working concurrently as Director of Latino Student Ministry in Campus Ministry and Associate Director of the Office of Vocations for the Congregation of Holy Cross. He left these positions to pursue full-time studies; in the spring of 2008, Fr. Tom completed a Master’s degree in Iberian and Latin American Literatures at the University of Notre Dame.
Fr. Tom earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Economics from the University of Notre Dame in 1995. As an undergraduate, he spent a year studying in Mexico City. Fr. Tom entered Moreau Seminary in the fall of 1995 and received his Master of Divinity degree from Notre Dame in 2002. While in the seminary, he spent two years teaching in Holy Cross schools in Lima, Peru, and Santiago, Chile. He also served as a deacon at St. John Vianney Parish in Goodyear, AZ. After being ordained a Holy Cross priest in April 2003, he began his ministry in residence life at Notre Dame that fall. A native Hoosier who was born and raised in Huntington, IN, Fr. Tom is the youngest of 14 children.
