What was your first impression of ND when you arrived on campus?
When I first set foot on campus as a visiting senior in high school, I felt such a warm feeling on campus that emanated from the students, professors, architecture, murals…everything! It was at that moment that I knew I had found the perfect fit for me.
What are your favorite things about student life at ND?
My favorite thing about student life is the general sense of community and family that you feel. Students come from all over the country, and I love being able to learn more about their backgrounds. From football games, to movies on the quad, to interhall sports, to late night karaoke, to eating twenty-five cent hot dogs at midnight, there’s always so much to do on campus.
What prompted you to choose a major in Science-Business?
In the future, I hope to pursue a career as a pediatrician or hospital manager. Science-Business is the perfect major for my interests because it combines both my pre-medical requisites with a strong background in business.
Extra-curricular involvement:
I am currently involved in a variety of sports including Pangborn Hall tennis and intramural broomball. I also participate in a number of clubs including Pangborn Hall cabinet, Minority Pre-Medical Society, Filipino-American Student Organization, and Hyde Park at CoMo. Along with participating in these groups, I am a ND tour guide in the visitor’s center.
What do you think makes ND unique from other universities?
Among many things, ND’s uniqueness lies primarily within its deep tradition and community. No where else can you find a group of students, alumni, and families more proud and more enthusiastic with their school than here at Notre Dame. Touchdown Jesus, candlelight dinners, the Golden Dome, and the glow of the Grotto are just a few examples of the Notre Dame spirit.
What are some of the things you enjoy about living in the residence hall?
Living in Pangborn Hall has been a wonderful experience for me! Home of the “Phoxes,” I love how the women in my hall help to form a tight-knit community that quickly becomes a second family. I love working together and competing against other halls to fight for “dorm pride.”
Do you have any words of wisdom to offer an incoming ND student?
Find your interests and get involved! Joining different clubs and sports on campus is one of the best ways to meet people who share your passions and interests. Be confident in who you are and don’t be afraid to let yourself shine. Get to you’re your professors and take advantage of the fabulous networking programs. Most importantly, have fun! You’re only at ND for so long, so make each second count!
Additional Comments:
I knew from the moment that I first stepped on to campus that Notre Dame would be the right fit for me. My decision to come to ND over all other schools to which I was admitted can be broken down into 3 reasons: academics, religion, and general social life. I saw ND as a wonderful opportunity to further enhance my intelligence while challenging my ideas and helping me to think in new and innovative ways. At the same time, coming from a strong Catholic background, I knew that Notre Dame would continue to help me grow in my Catholic faith. The main reason as to why I came to ND was because of its sense of community. When I came as a prospective student, my guide helped to show me how amazing the students, professors, and staff are. It was this “family” feel that convinced me to come to ND. Despite being over 2,000 miles away from home, I knew that whether I would sunbathe on the quad, eat in the dining hall, or attend SYRs, there would always be a friendly face and I would always feel at home.
